Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI)
The purpose of this federally administered program is to provide income replacement benefits in the event that an individual becomes disabled and can no longer earn a living. This insurance is available to those who have paid into the system (federal payroll withholdings or direct contributions) throughout their working career. Furthermore, the amount of benefits will be based on the amount paid to the system over the years as a worker.
Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
A welfare benefits program that enables those who are disabled to receive an income to pay for basic necessities.
